The sauce making went fine. If you’re a guy, you can just pretend that the tomatoes, butter and onion are water that takes a really long time to boil. Just remember to not boil your pasta for the same amount of time. Ha. Oops.
I followed Neven’s recommendation and didn’t add anything to the sauce. I quite enjoyed it. It’s delicious on toast, and, as a recent post on Salt and Fat points out, it’s brilliant to poach eggs with. Also, as Neven said, it’s simple to spice it to your taste.
A can of tomatoes is what, $2? Butter is fairly cheap and so are onions. That, in addition with the ease of preparation makes for a staggeringly low opportunity cost. So yes, this recipe is definitely worth a go.
