Be aware.
Hollywood is a Detroit in progress.
With relatively inexpensive RED cameras and capable dSLRs available, Hollywood is already in deep. In addition, they failed to learn from the music industry and the print industry before that.
Some internet service providers are trying to pull the same crap.
It turns out that just about everyone is making huge margins in Internet access, revenue is surging even as costs drop, and companies like Time Warner Cable have actually reduced (significantly) their capital outlays on infrastructure.
There are good things happening in the broadband industry, but if fellow citizens don’t pay attention to the related issues and politics, history could repeat itself. This industry is a bit different from print, music and film in that entry costs will always be prohibitive to individual citizens and different from the auto industry in that foreign companies aren’t likely to steal marketshare with superior products, but that doesn’t prevent foul play on the part of established entities.
I don’t want this to be the United States our brave soldiers are fighting for or the United States your children inherit. Success isn’t a right granted due to precedent or locality. It’s a possible result of hard work an ingenuity. It’s a result of humility in spite of pride. Help me remind our politicians, industry and fellow citizens of this.
